Despite all the evidence on our own doorstep - such as the new Tate buildings and the transformation of Shoreditch and Brick Lane - we’re still reluctant to make that connection here in the UK. In 2012, the Olympics provides an incomparable opportunity to make a statement to the world, and yet cutbacks in arts funding are being used to fund initiatives. Let’s hope there’s a change in this short term thinking, and that maybe photography - with its ability to speak to audiences normally intimidated by contemporary art - can play a part in celebrating what Britain stands for the 21st century.
the opening of Local Worlds last friday 13th june (St. Antonio’s day) went on with a lot of positive energy in the air! the visit to the exhibition started at fortress Pau da Bandeira following towards the cultural centre of Lagos, with plenty of curious people to see and hear (at last!) the concert-installation by Tiago Cutileiro and Jorge Pereira: ALLMNESIA…
