Pista (Dance Floor) is an installation device that the artist – in collaboration with Beatrice Catanzaro (video), Cláudia Lopes Costa (stage design) e Ynaiê Dawson (photography) – has created from parts, which are a result of an intuitive work process. Starting from a material and formal research – Testing Dance Floors – the artist opens up a curtain that draws into an anonymous collective experience – Europe – which becomes personal through the confession – Sinner. At the exhibition Local Worlds, this project ends with the action “Personal DJ”, in August.

The aim of this work is to rethink and link different levels of reality with far away spaces, as well as to overtake relation barriers. Such as a story that allows several possible endings, this work is built at the spot and in accordance with each one’s intuition. Nobody will be forced to follow a specific path; there will be only suggestions, which everyone can go after. The possibilities are infinite and the stories endless. To accomplish this, there will be private DJ sessions between the 16th and 21st August, which will be free of charge. The sessions will be held in everyone’s private homes, according to the rules and schedule pre-established. The result of these sessions will be presented in the DJ session of August 23rd.

SUSANA GUARDADO nasceu em 1971, em Lisboa (Portugal), onde vive e trabalha. Com uma intensa formação académica em diversos domínios das artes visuais, a sua obra está intimamente ligada ao universo musical, presença constante no seu dia a dia, que não raras vezes constitui um ponto de partida para as suas peças. Desde 1998 participa com instalações, vídeo, escultura e fotografia em exposições individuais e colectivas, tendo obtido um significativo reconhecimento a nível nacional, que se reflecte na crítica à sua obra e na aquisição desta por conceituadas colecções, como a Fundação PLMJ ou a colecção António Cachola. Em 2000 obteve a Bolsa de Jovens Criadores do Centro Nacional de Cultura. Em 2007 participou na residência artística “Sítio das Artes” inserida no Fórum Cultural Estado do Mundo, projecto comemorativo dos 50 anos da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Actualmente está representada em Lisboa pela Galeria 3+1 Arte Contemporânea.     Susana Guardado was born in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1971, where she lives and works. With an ecletic academic background in the visual arts, her work is intimately associated with music, which is constantly present in her daily life and it is often a starting point for her pieces. Since 1998, she has participated in both in solo and group exhibitions, with installations, video, sculpture and photography, which has gained her high national praise, as refected in the press reviews as well as the purchase of her pieces by renowned collections, such as the PLMJ Foundation or António Cachola. In 2000, she received the Young Creators Award from the National Center for Culture. In 2007, she participated in the artistic residence Site of the Arts, part of the Cultural Forum Estado do Mundo, project organized to commemorate the 50 years of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon. Currently, Susana Guardado is represented by 3+1 Contemporary Art Gallery, in Lisbon.

BEATRICE CANTAZARO nasceu em 1975, em Milão (Itália) e tem dupla nacionalidade (italiana e suíça). Frequentou o Master in Public Art da Bauhaus University, Weimar, Alemanha em 2002 e estudou Social Sculpture na Oxford Brookes University, Inglaterra. Desde 2004, desenvolve projectos em colaboração com a Fundação Vastu-Schilpa, Universidade CEPT, Ahmedabad, Índia e a Fundação Pistoletto, na Itália, na qual também é tutora. Participou na residência Sítio das Artes, na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, em 2007, em Lisboa, para onde se mudou e actualmente frequenta a escola de artes visuais Maumaus. O seu trabalho consiste numa análise contextual que resulta em instalações temporárias que lidam com camadas de narrativas no espaço público.    Beatrice Catanzaro was born in 1975, in Milan (Italy) and she has double nationality (Italian and Swiss). She has a Master’s degree in Public Art from Bauhaus University, Weimar, Germany, in 2002, and  studied Social Sculpture at the Oxford Brookes University, England. Since 2004, she develops projects in collaboration with Vastu-Schilpa Foundation, University CEPT, Ahmedabad, India, and the Pistoletto Foundation, in Italy, where she is also a tutor. She participated in the artistic residency Site of the Arts, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, where she currently lives and studies at the Maumaus Visual Arts School. Her work consists of a contextual analysis that results temporary installations that deal with narrative layers on public space.

CLÁUDIA LOPES COSTA, natural de Trás-os-Montes (1975, Portugal), estudou e trabalhou entre Sintra e Lisboa de 1994 até 2001, tendo neste ano viajado até Paris e aí ficado durante sete anos. A sede de voltar a Portugal fê-la regressar e materializar o que ficou de sete anos de experiência ao nível da cenografia e direcção de arte, especialmente na área da publicidade, moda e fotografia. Trabalhou em parceria com fotógrafos como David Hamilton, Irina Ionesco, Stephane Sednaoui, Michelangelo di Battista, Ian Welters, Mark Pillai, Kristine Thiemann e Orlando dos Santos, entre outros. No presente momento, em Portugal, tenta continuar aliada às artes plásticas, não como protagonista, mas sim como membro de um corpo que tem uma cabeça que se mostra, logo, não a sua, porque os bastidores são-lhe mais confortáveis, sendo a cenografia, no seu ponto de vista, uma arte plástica que deve ser discreta, e camuflada por tudo o que representa.     Cláudia Lopes Costa was born in Trás-dos-Montes (1975, Portugal), studied and worked in Sintra and Lisbon between 1994 and 2001, and then traveled to Paris where she stayed seven years. Her longing to come back to Portugal led to her return and produce new work out of these seven years experience, in the areas of stage design, and art direction, especially in advertising, fashion and photography. She has worked in a partnership with photographers as David Hamilton, Irina Ionesco, Stephane Sednaoui, Michelangelo di Battista, Ian Welters, Mark Pillai, Kristine Thiemann and Orlando dos Santos, amongst others. Currently living and working in Portugal, she continues to work in fine arts, not as the main character, but participating in group work, as she feels more comfortable at the backstage. According to her, stage design is a fine art that should be discrete and camouflaged by everything it represents.

YNAIÊ DAWSON nasceu em São Paulo (Brasil) em 1979. É licenciada em fotografia e pós
graduada em Fine Art Media pela Slade School of Fine Art, Londres, 2004. Frequentou a Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro) e o curso de artes visuais da Maumaus (Lisboa). Expõe regularmente desde 2001, destacando-se as colectivas Da pele que quer ser vista ao sentido invisível (Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Buenos Aires e Quito, 2003) e Novas Aquisições da Colecção Gilberto Chateaubriand, MAM, Rio de Janeiro, 2004 e 2007; e a individual Infinitos, no Rio de Janeiro, 2006. Participou da Residência “Sítio das Artes”, na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisboa), em 2007, e possui trabalhos em algumas colecções públicas e privadas brasileiras. Actualmente vive em Lisboa e está representada, no Rio de Janeiro, pela Galeria Novembro Arte Contemporânea.     Ynaiê  Dawson was born in São Paulo (Brazil), in 1979. She has a degree in photography and a post-graduation in Fine Art Media from the Slade School of Fine Art, London, 2004. She has attended the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts, in Rio de Janeiro and the course of visual arts of Maumaus (Lisbon). Since 2001, she has regularly participated in exhibitions, including  group exhibitions-  Da pele que quer ser vista ao sentido invisível (Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Buenos Aires e Quito, 2003) e Novas Aquisições da Colecção Gilberto Chateaubriand, MAM, Rio de Janeiro, 2004 e 2007- and the solo show Infinitos, Rio de Janeiro, 2006. She has also participated in the residency Site of the Arts, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, (Lisbon), in 2007, and some of her works are part of Brazilian public and private collections. Currently she lives in Lisbon and is represented, in Rio de Janeiro, by the Novembro Contemporary Art Gallery.
