Tiago Cutileiro & Jorge Pereira

Allmnésia, 2008, by Tiago Cutileiro and Jorge Pereira
Allmnesia is an audiovisual work (sound and video) purposely created for the event “Local Worlds”, which is part of the structure of the Allgarve 2008. It is a reflection on the emotional support of human identity in a place of continuous change. Our local world, the one we deal with in our everyday life is an extension of our own body. It is a life organism in continuous mutation on which we mirror our consciousness. Our memory holds and tries to fix these references, by means of a mutating and scarred body. In our memory there is the essence of life and in our body the material side of that essence.
What happens, then, when the body starts a continuous and rapid metamorphosis? What happens to our identity when we are someone different everyday? Will there be time to keep the memory of someone who never really is?
Allmnesia is an act of meditation about this new being that everyday wakes up as a new one; a being that, lacking an identity that never has time to incorporate, builds a pseudo-perception of him or herself, an anamnesis that is based on an inborn will to break away from one’s roots. A being that everyday falls a sleep in the comfort of a city, which, in an unrestrained autophagia, does not exist.
All the sound and visual material used in the creation of Allmnesia was collected in a geographic space called Lagos.
