DVD encyclopedia – Vol. 1 is not only a documentary, but it is also a collection of hip-hop music in its different types. In the last three years, Corsino Furtado (Uncle C) has traveled to several places, countries and locations related to the hip-hop movement, carrying a small digital handy camera and has recorded in film many hours of raw material with several national and international performers, including interviews, freestyle, life concerts, graffiti, etc., with participants that range from 16 to 65 years of age. Recommended to people from 0 to 100 years old.
UNCLE C Corsino Furtado Mendes (whose artistic name is Uncle C) was born in Cape Verde in 1973 and emigrated at the age of six to Terceira Island (Azores, Portugal) where he lived until the age of ten, when, once again, he emigrated to Lisbon. He currently lives in Amadora, near Lisbon and it was here that everything started. He was introduced to the Hip-hop world by friends and older members of the family and some time later he joined the band 6º Templo (6th Temple). He always was a reporter of the band, because he took photos of all the good moments. In 2002, and with no formal training, he started shooting with a handy camera, which he now uses 24×7.
In 2005, he decides to show to the world the images he had been collecting in Portugal, France, Holland, Cape Verde, Spain, etc. and launched the project as a DVD. He entitled his work Enciclopédia DVD Vol.1, because he considers it an encyclopedia of the hip-hop world. At the end of 2006, after a lot of work and struggle, the project was published into the market with publishers Very Deep/Som Livre, and on October, 27th 2007, Enciclopédia DVD (Encyclopedia DVD) Vol.1 made available from north to south of Portugal, and the sales exceeded the both his expectations and those of people related to the hip-hop world. This was a dream that came true, the first of many more to come.
